Today I reflect on some leadership thoughts and would like to share a few
“A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way.” This definitely cuts me out of the political races causing a lot of vibe in Kenya today, because I have not understand the way of politics. I qualify myself with understanding of ICt4D leadership in Africa context, I do know the way, I have walked the way and I have shown the way. What do you qualify to lead in?
“Competence goes beyond words. It’s the leader’s ability to say it, plan it, and do it in such a way that others know that you know how – and know that they want to follow you.” Again the Political scenario in Kenya is wanting, I surely don’t want to follow anyone. As I reflect on my ICT4D leadership, yes it’s true that what I say, I plan and do and I believe those of you who follow my lead definitely want to do so willingly. Apply your competency in leadership today, won’t you?
Finally “Policies are many, Principles are few, Policies will change, Principles never do.” What principles do our political leaders have if any? The principles I apply in ICT4D include information from the grassroots, Communication channels established, affordable and available technology, local capacity building with support networks in place, economic value on application. Yes the policies do change from community, country and organization, but the principles of application remain!. What are your leadership principles in your area of competence?
Parting shot: “If you’re lying, you’re lying.” STOP! The truth doesn’t need a backup, it’s the truth!
